Windowa 10 update did not complete due to lack of storage space.

The windows 10 update did not complete due to lack of storage space for the update. The 'windows need more space' screen appeared once with the option to use external flash drive but I did not have one available. I purchase the flash drive, but each time the windows 10 update ran I get the message of lack of space and I click on the Fix Issues to get to the screen for the option of using the external flash drive. The 'windows need more space' screen never appear again, how can I get back to that screen to use the flash drive to complete the windows 10 updates. Thank you.
