HP Pavilion Notebook - 15-ab269na (ENERGY STAR)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

After Windows software updates battery stops charging. Fixed this issue twice by deleting

battery driver but with  latest Window update this did not work.

Is there a fix for this problem?

@Robin122 There are a variety of factors why your laptop’s battery might suddenly stop charging or won’t charge to full capacity. These can include, age, health, and in your case, possible firmware or update issue, or the last scenario, a hardware issue.

One of the easiest things you can do is power down your computer, plug it in and let it charge overnight. If you don’t see any differences, try some of the following suggestions below.

1. Run Windows 10 Battery Diagnostics

If your battery isn’t fully charging, the first thing you can try is the Battery troubleshooter in Windows 10.

  • Open Start > Settings > Update & security > Troubleshoot
  • Scroll down then click Power
  • Click Run the troubleshooter

Complete the wizard then restart your device to see if the problem is resolved.

If that doesn't work or fetch positive results, please run a scan using the HP hardware diagnostics:
(Remove All External Devices before trying the below step)

  1. Turn on the computer.

    • If your computer does not start normally, press the F2 key repeatedly, about once every second until the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI menu displays, then continue to the next step.

    • If your computer starts normally, search for HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows, right-click on the app in the search results, then select Run as administrator.

  2. Click Component Tests in the main menu.

  3. In the list of Component Tests, click Power.

  4. In the list of Power Tests, click Battery Check or Battery.

  5. On the Battery Test, click Run once.

The Battery Test begins. The Battery Test takes about two minutes. The Battery Calibration, if needed, requires 2 to 4 hours. You can cancel at any time by pressing the Escape (Esc) key.

  6. When the testing is done, review the first line on the Battery Check page that displays for the status or condition of the battery.

    • If your battery passed, click Main Menu or click Battery Details for more information & respond with the details.

    • If your battery failed, capture the failure ID and respond to us.

Let me know how that pans out,

@Robin122 That's quite weird, as the tests don't cancel on their own, nevertheless, since it is, I suggest you reinstall the battery drivers to avoid any malfunctions causing the cancellation of the test and then, try performing the test again (if the reinstallation of battery doesn't fix the issue)

1) In the search box, type, and open “Device Manager”.

2) Expand “Batteries”.

3) Right-click the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" that is listed there.

4) Click on “Uninstall”.

5) At the prompt put a check in the box to remove the current driver

6) Shutdown the computer.

7) Remove the battery for a minute and then put it back in.

😎 When the computer comes back up it should automatically find the driver.

9) Go to Device Manager.

10) Expand Batteries.

11) Right-click the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" that is listed there.

12) Click "Search automatically for updated driver software"

Do the same thing with Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Embedded Controller.

Restart the computer & run the test if this doesn't fix the issue.
