I realize I have a relic of a laptop here, but I wanted to install the Windows 10 software.  It is presently a Windows 8.  I tried installing the Windows 10 software but was unable to.  I while back I was told that I needed to upgrade the BIOS.  The current BIOS is, (BIOS Version/Date     Insyde F. 72,  03/09/2018), and (BIOS Mode   Legacy),  this information was found on the System Information dialog page.  Is it possible to upgrade this systems BIOS to install Windows 10?

Thank you in advance,

DarrylXR

I don't recommend that you upgrade to W10 for two reasons:

1. Microsoft closed the loophole in October of 2023 that allowed users to continue to get the free upgrade to W10 after the official free upgrade period expired in July of 2016.

So, you will have to pay for a W10 license and I believe the cost for W10 Home is $99 or thereabouts and $139 for W10 Pro.

2. W10 goes out of support this October so you may as well save your money and stay on the unsupported W8 OS.

Your notebook already has the latest BIOS update installed.

Paul_Tikkanen, I should have mentioned that I had already purchased the software and it's sitting in my files right now.  Its just it won't install because I was given info that I had to upgrade the BIOS.  Any suggestions!

The only thing I can suggest is to back up any files you don't want to lose onto a portable hard drive.

Then change the BIOS setting from Legacy to UEFI and see if you can clean install W10 that way.

The setting may be to enable secure boot/disable legacy mode.

Just note that if this doesn't work and Windows still can't install you may not be able to go back to where you are now.
