Envy X360 13-ag0003au
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My x360 had this issue where it freezes sometimes, and my usual remedy when faced with these type of problems is to go to the Device Manager and manually update the drivers there.

These days, Windows included System Firmware as one of the devices, and will update the BIOS if it detects a newer version. What I have experienced is that sometimes, using this manual update gets you firmware that HP hasn't even listed yet. I got F35 using the System Firmware update before it was even listed in HP's site.

And yesterday, I got a F42 update from F35, which was quite a significant jump. Can anyone here point out if I can actually get the release notes for this BIOS update since it wasn't even listed in the HP download site?

@madfry,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

  • How did you install the F.42 BIOS?
  • Do you use any software to update the BIOS?

Meanwhile, the latest BIOS available from HP is F.35 Rev.A and there is no information about F.42 BIOS.

Hope that answers your question and you have a great day!

I would really like to paste the screenshot of my laptop running the x360, but because I doubt I'm going to get a solution here, I'd rather not.

In short, HP basically put out a lemon like this laptop out, and every time a person complains here, nothing gets done.

For your information, Microsoft Update has built in Firmware Update, meaning I don't even have to open the HP Support Assistant to get BIOS update. Windows automatically does that for me. That is where I got that BIOS F42 from. Straight from Microsoft Update server.

This is also not the first time I got the update this way. F35 I also got via Windows Update from Microsoft (While the latest listed was either 33 or 34 on the website). I find it strange that HP itself does not know that firmware update is being delivered this way.

The x360 itself is a piece of lemon. If you are going to buy this, do note that HP straight up fudged the battery life numbers for example. This thing will not run past 4 hours on battery whatever you do. Well, maybe if you turn the thing into a glorified typewrite that you have to squint at since you are going to have to turn the brightness to near zero.

The trackpad, I don't really mind if it does not work well. What I do mind is when it does not work properly. Pinch Zooming when I don't want it to do, and weird sudden zoom even when I had pinch zoom turned off. Windows services eating up CPU usage resources, weird ones.

So, never mind. I'd probably pawn this off to someone else.

@madfry,

I would like to inform you that the release notes will be available only once the BIOS is available on the HP support website.

Hope that answers your question.

Cheers!
