My wireless card sometimes does not reconnect once the laptop awakes from sleep mode. I have to restart or hard restart to get it to function again. Is this a problem with the wireless card? If so, what are my options to replace it? Thank you.

Limited. Your laptop will have the whitelist that confines you to options listed in the Service Manual. If you were happy with the performance of the card when it was working your best bet is just to get an exact replacement which we should be able to find for a few dollars. Physical replacement is very easy. Just remove the access panel on the bottom of the laptop and it is in there.
Atheros AR9280 802.11a/b/g/n WLAN module 482260-001
Broadcom 4321 802.11a/b/g/n WLAN module 453730-001

Just want to confirm that the two options you provided are correct since my laptop is an HP Pavilion dv7-1129wm currently equipped with an Atheros AR5007 802.11b/g WiFi Adapter and driver version 2.0.0.75, 6/9/09. Thanks again.

Here is the Service manual HP has listed for your laptop:
I am going by what is listed in there. What is odd is that neither the processor listed under HP's specs, not your wifi card is listed in the manual. Yours is a Wal-Mart model as shown by the wm at the end of the model number. Sometimes those are special build items that have "one off" configurations. Does the wireless card in it now have an HP Part number?
I am virtually sure the other wireless cards listed in the Manual will work but the only 100% absolute safe thing is to get a card just like the one that is in it.
The AR5007 is an older card with only "g" capability and the one I linked is an "n" card and would be better if it will work.
