I am having wifi issues at school since they have upgraded all the hot spots to wifi6. Is there an upgrade I can do to my current Intel 7260 wireless card?

Find out exactly what your universities requiements are.

Have they set the wifi hotspots to Wifi 6 only or if you can you connect with a dual band AC card.

If you can connect with an AC card, then I would play it safe and upgrade to this model.

Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 802.11 ac 2x2 WiFi + BT 4.0    HP Part # 710661-001

You can find the card on eBay.  Search by the HP part number, not the model of the wifi card.

If the network is set up to support AX (wifi 6 only), then try the Intel AX 200 card I recommended.

Hi:

If you successfully upgraded your notebook with the Intel 7260 AC card, which was not a supported wifi adapter, you can give this card a try...

Thanks so much. I went from 22mbps to 110-130mbps with the new HP 7290. It seemed to want to disconnect frequently with the newest firmware 18... Something so I rolled it back to 17.. and it seems to be more consistent. If it holds like that I'll take it. I guess I can always upgrade to that ax version if this one doesn't work out. But thanks again!!

Anytime.

Glad to have been of assistance, and thanks for letting us know the Intel 7260 AC wifi card worked in your notebook.

See if updating the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth drivers to the last version Intel released for the 7260 AC work better.

That is the version I am using on the Intel 7260 card in my notebook and I have no problems at all.

Wifi:  The first file listed is for 64 bit.

Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software and Drivers for Intel® Wireless 7260 Family

BT: The first file isted is for 64 bit.

Intel® Wireless Bluetooth® for Intel® Wireless 7260 Family and Intel® Dual-Band Wireless-AC 3160
