I just upgraded to SSD and more RAM. Saw the wireless card and decided to replace that. Currently equipped with 3168NGW and I'd like something that takes advantage of our fiber internet and new Bluetooth protocols. What's the best wireless card I can install?

Hi:

Below is the link to the service manual:

Chapter 3 has the list of supported Wi-Fi cards offered in the model series.

The best card offered in the model series was the Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7265.

However, I see no reason why you wouldn't be able to upgrade to either one of these two cards:

Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX200 ax 2×2 + Bluetooth 5.0 MU-MIMO M.2 2230 non-vPro   HP part # / SPS #L35282-005

Intel AX210 Wi-Fi 6E 2x2 AX + Bluetooth 5.2 M.2 2230 non-vPro   HP part # / SPS # M27269-005

Thanks, I saw those two mentioned in old threads.

Is the WiFi 7 BE200 out of the question? I think these are the newest cards.

I'm also looking at upgrading all my home network stuff so this is helpful.

You're very welcome.

I don't think the Intel BE200 is out of the question, but I don't know of anyone that has installed that card in a notebook of that age.

You can give one a try and let us know if it worked.

This person installed one in a slightly newer notebook (Intel 10th gen core processor) than yours and indicated it worked.

Seems like you might just have to install the Bluetooth drivers from the Intel website.

I went with the AX210NGW. Now my laptop won't boot! I started out with a new windows 10 install with the card unplugged because it would turn on with a black screen with it plugged in. I was able to boot the computer normally after all the windows updates, but it wouldn't recognize the card for WiFi, but Bluetooth works. I've seen lots of other posts about the computer not booting after installing a RAM chip or wireless card but no resolutions.

I've tried installing drivers and following suggestions I've found. I'm going to try the old card, but the antenna adapter broke when I removed it

Sorry that the Intel AX210 didn't work.

That was a pretty unusual reaction to installing the card.

Normally the notebook will generate a BIOS error of an unsupported wireless adapter and not boot until the card is removed or the card doesn't show up in the device manager.

I can't find any posts where anyone has upgraded the Wi-Fi card in that model, perhaps the AX200 would work but I would not attach any antenna wires to it until you know it will work to minimize breaking any other antenna wires/connections.

I broke both the terminals off an Intel 7265 when trying to install an Intel 9260 and it took me a couple of hours to dig the broken off terminals out of the Wi-Fi antenna connectors to I could attach it to the 9560 card.
