My kids tried to use their laptop tonight and when they tried to turn it on all that happened was a orange light next to where the AC cord goes blinked 3 times. I tried troubleshooting with resetting it (taking the battery out and holding the power button down) but it still continues to do he same thing. We've only had it a couple years and it doesn't get used that much so it's in good condition. Please help, I can't afford to replace their computer!

Hi

Could you please expand on the

MAKE, MODEL, OS and SKU?

Dunno.

Depending on the BIOS installed it could be a Memory (RAM) issue.

Memory
Module error not functional
  1. Reseat the memory.
      note:
See the Services Media Library for steps for your computer.
  2. Check each individual memory module and swap slots.
  3. Replace the memory modules causing three blinks or if the blinks follow the slots.
  4. Replace the system board.

So start with the Memory Modules (RAM).

If in doubt please ask.

I actually found my extended warranty information and spoke to tech support this morning. We figured out my power cord is going bad. Thank you very much for responding though, I appreciate it!

What's funny about the computer is the make is literally a Notebook 17z. It runs Windows 10 but have zero idea what the SKU is.

Prego.

WinKey + R and type msinfo32 then look at line 9 for the SKU.

It is the build reference, so in th HP parts store it would list all the parts, rather than just a HP 17.

System SKU    N7K06EA#ABU    for mine.
