I looked up the specs on the HP website. Unfortunately there is no mention of the capabilities of the built-in PCIe NVME slot. I am wondering if a PCIe 4 would be supported for the above mentioned HP Omen before buying the upgrade.

Hi:
A PCIe Gen 4 SSD would be backward compatible in your PC's PCIe Gen 3 NVMe slot, but it won't run nowhere near its maximum advertised read/write speeds.
Since today's notebook processors are integral parts of the motherboard, you can look up the PCIe connectivity specifications on the applicable AMD or Intel websites.
Looking at the specs for your notebook's processor at the link below, it shows the PCIe connectivity is Gen 3.0.
