Extreme Tuning Utility stopped working for me suddenly this afternoon. I had an update for a driver for NVIDIA and afterwards when I tried running XTU again after a restart, I was prompted with this: "Unable to start Intel Extreme Tuning Utility. If there is another performance tuning application running, you must close it before trying to start this application." I have not used or downloaded another tuning application, so I was a little confused. I thought it could have been in relation to the NVIDIA update, but I apparently also had a Windows update. I then started looking around for answers since I was at a loss. After hours of digging around and trying a few different ways to resolve my issue, I have not been able to get XTU to run normally again. I looked specifically for posts that shared the same prompt I was being presented.
I have the HP Omen, i7-7700HQ, NVIDIA GTX 1050 and 8GB RAM, with Windows x64 as my OS (model number 1KV80UA if it helps). The latest version of XTU was the one I had installed, which is version 6.5.2.40.
Like I mentioned above, I have tried a variety of solutions, but I did see one post that summarized basically everything I did to try and resolve my issue. First, I would like to mention that I did update Windows and had a BIOS update as well I believe. Although I had these updates, I was still running XTU with no issues today at noon. In a matter of six hours, it stopped working with almost no reason, or at least one I could find. But along with the updates, I also tried following other posts' directions. Summed up, this is what I did:
1. Uninstalled Intel XTU using Apps and Features.
2. Deleted any folder named Intel XTU from C:\Program Files (x86)\Intel, and C:\ProgramData\Intel.
3. Deleted the folder named Intel Intel Telemetry under C:\ProgramData.
4. Uninstalled Intel XTU setup that I had downloaded,
(as mentioned a moment ago, it was the latest version but still had to make sure), then downloaded and installed the latest Intel XTU version again.
After this all did not fix my issue, I tried restoring BIOS to its original settings and did this whole process over again. Restoring the default BIOS settings did not solve my issue either, which was a little demoralizing as I could not/ cannot find anything else that could help resolve this.
At this point, I am at a loss on what to do and I am not sure if this is a problem for others since I have not seen much recently about this happening. The couple posts I found I followed and yielded no results. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I tried to include everything I could to make this process easier for everyone, but if I missed anything that would be helpful please let me know. (I am sorry if I did not put this in the right spot as well, just made this account today.)
