HP EliteBook 830 G6 Notebook PC

I recently received a firmware update notification for HP R70 System Firmware via Windows Update. After installing it, I was prompted to restart my PC to complete the update. However, even after restarting, I still see a yellow warning triangle next to HP R70 System Firmware under the Firmware section in Device Manager.

I'm concerned about whether the firmware update was applied successfully or if something went wrong. Can you please advise me:

  1. Is it safe to uninstall the HP R70 System Firmware from Device Manager and let Windows reinstall it?

  2. Could this cause any issues with my system or BIOS?

  3. Is there a way to verify the current firmware version and check if the update was applied properly?

Hello Saki334,

Thank you for posting your concern,

Troubleshooting HP R70 System Firmware Update Warning on HP EliteBook 830 G6

If you see a yellow warning triangle next to "HP R70 System Firmware" in the Device Manager after a firmware update, this generally indicates a problem with the firmware installation. Here are the steps you can follow to troubleshoot and resolve this issue:

  1. Check the Installation Logs:

    • Check Windows Update history to see if there are any error messages related to the firmware update. This can provide more details on what might have gone wrong during the update process.
  2. Reapply the Firmware Update:

    • Sometimes, reapplying the update can resolve this issue. Check HP's support page for your device model for the latest firmware version and try reinstalling it manually.
    • To do this, visit the HP Software and Driver Downloads page, enter your device model, and follow the instructions to download and install the firmware manually.
  3. Update Device Drivers:

    • Ensure that all your device drivers are up to date. Use HP Support Assistant to check for updates or download the latest drivers from the HP support page for your model.
  4. BIOS Update:

    • Ensure your system's BIOS is up to date, as this can sometimes resolve firmware-related issues. Follow instructions here to update the BIOS manually.
  5. Clear CMOS:

    • Resetting the CMOS may resolve certain firmware recognition issues.
    • Power off your laptop, disconnect the power adapter, and remove the battery if possible. Press and hold the power button for 15–20 seconds, then reconnect everything and boot the laptop.
  6. Verify Firmware Update:

    • Double-check the firmware version installed in Device Manager by comparing it to the version details listed on HP's support page. This helps verify if the update actually applied.
  7. Check for Error Messages:

    • Look for event logs related to firmware under Windows Event Viewer (right-click Start > Event Viewer) for any error codes.
  8. Contact HP Support:

    • If the issue persists after trying the above steps, contacting HP Support for further assistance could be beneficial. They might offer additional diagnostics or provide a resolution specific to your firmware version.

These steps should help in identifying whether the update was successful or provide a pathway for resolving any issues with the firmware installation.
