Hi guys, I have 256 GB NVME SSD installed as a primary drive and wanted to top it up with 2.5" SSD drive. Got the SATA cable to connect it, can't see the disk in BIOS nor OS. Could there be any compatibility issues? Can easily see the disk if connected as external via USB.

Cheers

Mario

I have a Zbook 15 G3 and have 2 x M.2 SSDs and a 2.5 inch SSD in it. The 2.5 inch bay is under the smart card reader module and HP privided all the needed hardware in the one I have. I did not have to add anything.

Where did you get the SATA cable?

Well, I have m.2 256 GB installed as a primary  OS and wanted to upgrade my system with another SSD Crucial MX500 SATA 2.5" nonSED. I bought my ZBook 15 G3 second hand and had to purchase the SATA connector of eBay, so possibly not genuine one - couldn't find original HP ones anywhere as I don't know the part number.

I was just wondering if other users experienced alike issue - the SSD SATA 2.5" doesn't get detected in BIOS nor OS. Tried updating BIOS (successfully) and other drivers with HP SupportAssistant app. Still no joy. 99% culprit - eBay cable it needs to be.

Hi, thanks for your reply. This is exactly alike, but I managed to source the cable connector only as the caddy was in already. According to the HP manual, it supports 256GB and 1TB only, missing 500GB ones would be odd.  This lets me think the cable I bought may be an issue or my SSD drive is incompatible with the system requirements - which is odd. I'll give a go another cable and SSDs to eliminate possibilities.

I have a 500 gb in mine. The capacity of the SSD is not the problem.

Yeah, that's what I thought - as it uses the same interface. I'll give a new cable a go and see if it works. Thanks again for a reply.
