HP ZBook Firefly 16 inch G9 Mobile Workstation PC (4C770AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi,

I recently acquired a ZBook Firefly 16 G9 (6V2U8PA).

The system came with 32GB RAM, supports up to 64GB RAM and has a 2nd SODIMM slot for a 2nd 32GB module.

I have attempted 3 different brands / types of 32GB, DDR5, 4,800Mhz RAM, none of which have worked.  The system powers on and the fan eventually speeds up and nothing else happens.

The latest module attempted is a Kingston KCP548SD8-32 which they claim to support this laptop on their website.

Another one, also supposed to support it, was a Crucial CT32G48C40S5 .

Both gave the same result with the laptop.

The module that came with the laptop is a Samsung M425R4GA3BB0-CQKOL .

I have tried the other modules on their own and the same, unfortunate result.

I also have a ZBook Fury G9 laptop which has accepted all the modules the Firefly hasn't without fail.

I've never seen this happen before with a HP system and are very disappointed to date.

I'm even worried if I was to order a matching Samsung M425R4GA3BB0-CQKOL that it would also fail to be recognised???

Any info / confirmation on this known matter would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Computone, some G9 systems have a very long wait time after the RAM change.....

Thankyou SO much TzortzisG.  I waited 5-6 minutes and was eventually presented with the change in memory message, hitting enter to accept.

Who has ever witnessed this before with any other system RAM upgrade previously (until now, obviously across the board with G9).

I've been on a live chat w/ HP and even they couldn't give me that tip.

So thankyou SO much again.  All credit to you! 🙂

....I have one of these G9 systems, so.......

Somebody ought to tell HP though, right? 😁

Have a good one!

Ha, well actually, I did share the discovery with the live support agent as I closed the chat. Whether it gets through to the keepers or not, who knows? 😉

Have a good one?? I certainly will now!! Same to you!  Thankyou again (and again)!! 😁

It's possible that the RAM modules you tried are not compatible with your ZBook Firefly 16 G9. While Kingston and Crucial claim that their modules are compatible, it's possible that there is a compatibility issue with your specific laptop model. It's also possible that the modules are defective or not installed correctly.

You could try contacting HP support to see if they can provide any information about compatible RAM modules or to troubleshoot the issue with you. They may also be able to advise you on whether ordering a matching Samsung module is a good idea. It's always recommended to use RAM modules that are listed as compatible by the manufacturer to avoid compatibility issues.

If you're concerned about losing data, you could try backing up your important files before attempting any further troubleshooting or hardware changes.
