Hi, On the left side of the laptop are two old-school Type-A USB ports. The SuperSpeed USB Type-A 5Gbps signaling rate (charging) and SuperSpeed USB Type-A 5Gbps signaling rate are the same except only one of them support full sleep and charge. In other words, if you plug your phone into the wrong one when the laptop is off it will not charge but the other one will. Either one charges while the laptop is in sleep mode.

Old school, what does it mean? Which usb version? USB2?

HP Recommended

Old school means that it has been around for a long time on the system's manufacture lifecycle and it uses a USB Type-A device.
