ZBook G5 17
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I just bought a zbook G5 17 inch. It cam with 16GB of RAM. I also bought a set of 2 x 16GB DDR4 RAM. I was expecting to remove the RAM that came with it, and put the other RAM in. However, it looks like the top two slots are not user accesable. What is advised here? There are two open slots on the bottom, but I don’t want to mix RAM. The BIOS says that “Top Slot 1 - Left” has 16GB of Samsung RAM.

The manual says

NOTE: The computer uses two memory sockets. The socket labeled ‘2’ houses the expansion memory module and the socket labeled ‘1’ houses the primary memory module. The removal procedure is the same for both memory sockets.

Please check those labels and use the following guide from page 52:

Thank you for answering so quickly.

So, it would be okay to add two matched sticks the the user accessable slots on the bottom. I would end up with 48GB of RAM. isn't this a bad idea?

The slots on the bottom are labeled 2 and 3 respectivly.

Any thoughts?

I placed my purchased matching RAM into slot 3 to give me dual channel RAM performance. I too had only 16GB in slot 1 on purchase. I didn't feel confident tearing down the whole computer and flipping the motherboard to access slot 2. Couldn't HP have made the computer to allow access to RAM slots 1 and 2 and NVMe slot 1 via the keyboard?
