Hi,

Usually my laptop is fairly quiet when idle but over the last few weeks the fans have been racing and making noise.  The CPU is way down ~7% but the fans are still whizzing.

  • CPU temp ~ 45 C
  • nVidia GPU temp 40 C (it's idle because the Intel Iris Xe GPU is the primary graphics).
  • PCH temp is 40 C.
  • Battery temp is 28 C

There was a BIOS update recently, to 1.14.0.  The release notes didn't say anything about temp control or fans.

Intel graphics and nVidia drivers are latest - there were updates for both of these this last week.

  • Task Manager has "System" as the highest when sorted by CPU - no significant background tasks running.
  • Power Plan is "Balanced"
  • Windows 11 24H2, all updates - including all the HP driver ones (HP Inc. - Software Component, etc).
  • HP Support Assistant reports no updates needed.
  • I've cleaned the vents - didn't find any fluff or debris.
  • Have done full malware scan - no issues found.
  • Have done full UEFI hardware diagnostics - no issues.

Not sure what to do.  Guess I could check inside for any fluff, and maybe change the thermal paste.  But this behaviour seems to have come on suddenly.

Has anybody else experienced similar, recently?

Thanks,

Z
