HP ZBook Power G7 Mobile Workstation (10J87AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi,

According to this whitepaper, the Zbook Power G7 should be compatible with the HP Thunderbolt 280W G4 Dock. I currently have my dock connected to 2 HP E27u G4 monitors via Thunderbolt. However, when I connect the dock to my Zbook, only 1 monitor detects the connection and works. The other monitor displays an error that it does not detect the USB-C connection and goes to sleep. Additionally, I get a warning from windows that "USB4 device functionality might be limited."

I have already updated my Zbook's drivers, including the Intel integrated and Nvidia graphics, Thunderbolt software, and have even updated the dock's firmware. I used drivers directly from their vendors, not Window's auto-detect tool.

I don't believe this is an issue with my dock or monitors since the Eltiebook 840, my previous HP laptop, worked with this dock and dual monitor setup just fine. When I was using my Elitebook, I also got "USB4 device functionality might be limited" pop-up from Windows when I plugged-in my dock's combo cable. The setup stopped working when I upgraded to the Zbook Power G7, but the whitepaper I posted states that the dock should still work.

What cables I use to connect my monitors to my dock does not matter. If I switch out the Thunderbolt with HDMI or DisplayPort, the problem persists: I plug in my dock to my laptop, only 1 monitor detects the connection and wakes up. The monitor that wakes up is completely random; both monitors work, it's just that they can't work at the same time.

I appreciate any support,

Thanks!
