15M-DR0012DX
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I found there was a thread regarding this procedure for a  HP Envy X360 15m-cn0012dx on this link:

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/add-a-second-hard-drive-to-15m...

However I can't find information regarding the same procedure for the 15M-DR0012D, nor even a Maintenance and Service Guide for this model.

Which SSD can be used as second drive?

Which sort of cases and cable should be used?

Where can they be found?

Thanks for your time!

Your system specifications indicates that you only have ONE M.2 slot

256 GB PCIe® NVMe™ M.2 SSD

Therefore you may want to opt for a bigger or 1TB SSD, and do a partitioning on your new SSD for other storage purposes.

You can also open your unit up to see if there's an additional SATA slot, if your unit does have one empty slot available, you can purchase an SATA SSD and slot it in. You can use any SATA SSD such as WD Blue SATA SSD.

Alternatively if you don't have an additional SATA expansion slot, you can opt for an external SSD drive to USB 3.0/3.1. Just ensure that your model has a USB 3.1 port (check if its a typical USB A / C 3.1 port before purchasing the external SSD drive)

You can find them on Amazon / eBay or your local stores

Hi,

Basically, your only choice is to replace the M2 SSD in the notebook:

You can replace the M2 PCIe NVMe 256GB SSD you have in the notebook with a higher capacity drive. There is no limit to the capacity. You can use the fastest such as the Samsung 970 Evo Plus or cheaper and slower Crucial P1 or something similar.

https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-970-EVO-Plus-MZ-V7S1T0B/dp/B07MFZY2F2/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=samsung+970...

On page 31 of service manual you can see the steps to replace the drive:

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c06297488

https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-1TB-NAND-NVMe-PCIe/dp/B07J2Q4SWZ/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?keywords=crucial+p1&...

You can then reinstall the OS on the SSD.

Hope it helps,

David
