a while ago i opened up my laptop to do a ram upgrade and there is an empty area besides the battery that looks it can house a 2.5 inch drive so i am wondering is it possible to add an extra drive there?
here are some photos that might give you some context about what i am talking about.

the area that looks like it can house a drive:
I also noticed a ribbon connector that is not plugged in anything so it can be possible to add a sata connector:

Here is the Service Manual:
This is the 15-eq0xxx model but the layout of the motherboard, etc is the same. It does not show anything being connected to that zif connector. It may be a SATA port but since there is no part specified for a cable to connect a SATA 2.5 HDD or SSD, and no bracket or mounting hardware, you would have to guess which cable from another model might work. It is also possible HP originally was going to have a SATA 2.5 option and decided not to so the port might be dead and not connected into the motherboard. It would be trial and error.

AFAIK the system board for your laptop does not support adding an extra hard disk.
There is only support for a single M.2 SSD
Your options are to either upgrade the existing SSD to one with more storage capacity or to use an external storage device.

Yeah I am saying there is a chance. But I have no idea which one to tell you is your best shot. There are many different cables:
