Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Just bought a new laptop from Office Depot.  With only 4 Gb ram, the salesman said I could upgrade it later with either a replacement of 8Gb or an addition of 4 Gb.  He didn't know which offhand.

This case does not have a little doggy door for the memory slots like other laptops I have had.  Can I crack the case and access the slots on this PC or is that verbotten?  Same question if I want to replace the drive with an SSD later.

If this thing is made to be not upgradable, well it has a limited future and I may have to return it now.

Please give me some guidance here

Hi,

Yes, it is upgradeable. It has

Two non-customer-accessible/upgradable memory module slots (Intel Core processors)
DDR4-2133 dual channel support (DDR4-2400 bridge to DDR4-2133)
Supports up to 16 GB of system RAM in the following configurations:
● 16384-MB total system memory (8192×2)
● 12288-MB total system memory (8192×1) + (4096×1)
● 8192-MB total system memory (8192×1) or (4096×2)
● 6144-MB total system memory (4096×1) + (2048×1)
● 4096-MB total system memory (4096×1)

As you can see, whit the old design, you can replace RAM in less than 5 minutes but not now, you have open the whole case and this may take hours, also may damage computer that why  this work is not for Customer Self-Repair parts but for Authorized Service Provider parts.

Same for HDD - Of course you can replace yourself if you wish with a risk : this may void warranty.

Regards.
