Envy 15t-as100
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

hi! i recently purchased a 15t (as100) preinstalled with a PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD (1 tb) and i'm discovering that i'm probably going to need more space in the long run -- i want to stick to solid state storage for speed/quiet/shock resistance purposes, and since it's so expensive replacing the drive with a bigger one is out of the question; i've been trying to figure out whether it's possible to add a second SSD to this model and i think i just don't have the technical expertise to figure it out on my own.

i also have seen some posts suggesting that only certain models of internal SSD work well with the HP board in the 15t so i want to be absolutely sure that i get something compatible...!

so my questions are:

1) is there for sure a second hard drive slot in this model that would accomodate an additional SSD?

2) what is the difference between SATA and m.2 SSDs, and do i specifically need one or the other? (again, the preinstalled drive is an m.2)

3) are there specific models i should seek out or avoid? thinking i can barely afford a 500gb and trying to keep expenses as low as i can...

thanks much in advance!

Welcome to HP Support Forum. It it an HP Envy 15t-as100 ? If yes,

  1. Your machine has room/slot for a normal 2.5" SSD/HDD, you need to buy HDD kits which contains scews, cable, rubber bracket ... to be able to install SSD/HDD (they use same kits). (*)
  2. For SATA SSD and M.2 SSD, the main difference: physical shape and size.  There are few other M.2 SSD suuch as  PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD on your machine now and this one is mauch fater than a SATA M.2 SSD.
  3. Samsung Evo 850 series is a good choice.

The following manual shows you more info on page 32. Note: 15-1xx (pre-built) and 15t-100 (CTO) use same manual
