I have a HP LAPTOP DW3000, and it came with a 513 HDD and it's terribly slow, so I was wondering if there is a place to add an SSD or do I need to replace it.

Hi:
Please post the full model number and product number of your notebook.
Use this guide to find that information...

Hi:
Below is the link to the product specs for your notebook.
HP Laptop 15-dw3028nk Product Specifications | HP® Customer Support
According to the specifications it comes with a 1 TB SATA mechanical hard drive and yes, those are pretty slow nowadays, so I don't know where you are getting the 513 GB of drive space from, unless that is all you have left out of the 1 TB.
8 GB of memory is adequate, but 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) would be better.
You could install a M.2 2280 NVMe SSD and use the 1 TB hard drive for storage only.
That should speed things up quite a bit.
HP only has the service manual for the older 15-dw0xxx on your notebook's support page, but it should help you with opening up the notebook and installing a NVMe SSD.

There is also this service teardown video for the older model series:
The 15-dy0xxx model series uses the same service manual.
