Hi @X5Q20PA1

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Your HP Notebook 15-ay503tu taking over an hour to start up and running slowly afterward suggests performance bottlenecks, possibly due to background processes, outdated drivers, or storage issues

Here’s how to speed it up:

Disable Startup Programs

  • Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc).
  • Go to the Startup tab and disable unnecessary programs.

Run HP Performance Tune-Up

  • HP provides a built-in Performance Tune Check to optimize your laptop.
  • Follow the steps here to run the tool and improve speed.

Check for Windows & Driver Updates

  • Go to SettingsWindows UpdateCheck for updates.
  • Update graphics, chipset, and storage drivers from HP’s support page.

Perform a Disk Cleanup & Defragmentation

  • Open File Explorer, right-click C: drive, and select PropertiesDisk Cleanup.
  • Then, go to Defragment and Optimize Drives and optimize your HDD/SSD.

Upgrade RAM or Switch to SSD (If Possible)

  • If your laptop has low RAM (4GB or less), upgrading to 8GB or more will improve speed.
  • If using an HDD, switching to an SSD will drastically reduce boot time.

Reset Windows (If Necessary)

  • If performance remains poor, consider a Windows Reset (Settings → Recovery → Reset this PC).
  • Choose Keep my files to retain personal data while refreshing the system.
