Hi @aihmayad

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're having trouble typing the @ symbol on your new notebook, even when using the Shift or Fn key. This can happen due to a variety of reasons, including keyboard layout settings, regional settings, or even an issue with specific key combinations. Here are some troubleshooting steps to resolve the problem:

1. Check Keyboard Layout

The most common issue is the keyboard layout setting. It might be set to a different language or region, which changes the location of certain symbols like @.

  • How to check and change your keyboard layout (Windows 10/11):

Open the Start Menu and go to Settings (click the gear icon).

Select Time & Language.

Click on Language from the left sidebar.

Under Preferred languages, click on your current language (e.g., English (United States)).

Click Options.

Under Keyboards, check which layout is selected.

  • If it's not the correct layout (e.g., US QWERTY), click Add a keyboard and select the correct one.
  • If you're using a UK Keyboard, for example, the @ symbol might require you to press Shift + ' (apostrophe) rather than Shift + 2 (as it would on a US layout).

If you're unsure which layout you're using, change it to English (United States) QWERTY and test if the @ symbol works.

2. Check the Shift and Function Keys

On some keyboards, especially laptops, certain key combinations or Fn key functions can alter how the keyboard behaves. Ensure you're using the correct key combination to access the @ symbol.

  • On US QWERTY layout:
    • Shift + 2 (on most laptops with US keyboard layout).
    • Shift + ' (apostrophe) or Alt Gr + 2 (depending on the keyboard).

3. Test with an External Keyboard

If the above steps don’t work, try connecting an external USB keyboard or Bluetooth keyboard to your notebook and check if the @ symbol works on it. This can help determine if the issue is with the laptop's built-in keyboard or a system setting.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
