Hi @berry26
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
If your laptop is indicating that the storage capacity of the battery is low, it might mean that the battery's ability to hold a charge has decreased. Here's what you can do to address the issue:
Steps to Improve or Manage Battery Health
Calibrate the Battery: Battery calibration can help reset the battery management system. You can do this by:
- Charging the battery to 100% and leaving it charged for a couple of hours.
- Disconnecting the charger and using the laptop until it shuts down due to low battery.
- Charging it back to 100% without turning it on.
Check Battery Health: Use the HP Support Assistant to check the battery health.
- Open HP Support Assistant and click on Battery and Performance.
- Follow the prompts to test the battery and view its health status.
Update BIOS and Drivers: Ensure that your BIOS and device drivers are up to date, which might include improvements for battery management.
Battery Replacement: If the battery health is significantly degraded, consider replacing it. Check if your laptop is still under warranty or check with HP for battery replacement options.
Use Power Saver Mode: Using power saver mode when on battery can extend battery life between charges.
Long-term Tips for Battery Maintenance
- Avoiding Heat: Keep the laptop well-ventilated and avoid using it on soft surfaces.
- Unplugging After Full Charge: Don’t leave the laptop plugged in constantly to prevent overcharging.
- Regular Use: If the battery is rarely used, it can lose capacity. Using it regularly can help maintain it.
If after these steps your battery still doesn't perform adequately, you may need to consider purchasing a new battery through HP or an authorized retailer.
