I recently had a battery that 'died' and was replaced with genuine replacement battery by authorised repairer.
The new battery fully charged once (after letting it drain to empty).
Since then the battery will not charge up (caps out at about 7%).
The only way to use the laptop is with the AC adaptor plugged into the USB Type-C port. Whether the AC adaptor is plugged into the port or not, the battery light stays a constant white.
Has something possibly come loose inside, or is the board now an issue?
Any help appreciated.
Regards
John

Try the below suggestions-
System File Checker is a utility in Windows 10 that checks for problems with files on your computer. To run it, follow these steps:
- Make sure you've installed the latest updates for Windows 10, and then restart your machine. To find out more, read Update Windows 10.
- In the search box on the taskbar, type Command Prompt, and right-click or press and hold Command Prompt (Desktop app) from the list of results. Select Run as administrator, and then select Yes.
- Type DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth (note the space before each "/"), and then press Enter. (Note: This step may take a few minutes to start and up to 30 minutes to complete.)
- After you see a message that says "The operation completed successfully," type sfc /scannow (note the space between "sfc" and "/") and press Enter.
- After you see a message that says, "Verification 100% complete," type exit.

Welcome to HP Community
I have gone through your Post and would like to help
Please reinstall the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery and check if that helps
Step 01. Click on the Start Button
Step 02. Type "Device Manager" in the start search box & open the Device Manager
Step 03. Look for Batteries and expand it by click on the + symbol on the left
Step 04. Right Click on "Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery" & uninstall
Note: This Battery driver will get re-installed automatically when you restart the Notebook again
Step 05. Please Shutdown the Notebook
Step 06. Remove the Battery and unplug the Power Adapter ( For Notebooks with Removable Batteries )
Step 07. Press and Hold the Power Button for full 1 Minute
Step 08. Go ahead and put back the Battery and connect the Power Adapter and restart
Next update the BIOS from this Link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers
If the issue persists run a Battery Test again to confirm the Hardware Functionality
- Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
- Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second.
- When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
- On the main menu, click Component Tests and Power > Battery
Let me know how it goes 😊

Thanks Krazy Toad.
The solution worked temporarily. I managed to charge the battery up to 100%, with the charge light showing red.
However, I let the charge drop down to 20% (by removing the AC adaptor), then recharged. The recharge only went up to 71% and the charge light remained solid white and stayed that way for hours.
I then carried out the functions again; it worked again to get the charge up to 100% with the red charge light, but the same thing happened again: charged up to 71% (no further) and solid white charge light (even when AC adaptor removed).
Is there something I can do to get a permanent solution or will I need to carry out the steps you provided each time I need 100% battery charge?

Thanks for the help.
The battery charging issue appears to have been fixed, although there are some some issues. It's not consistent. If I let the battery charge down too much (below 20%) the problem reappears and I need to go through the entire process again (including KrazyToad's procedures). Otherwise, it's charging up to 100%. (Fingers crossed it continues to work.)
BTW if others are reading this post series, the scannow step needs to be "sfc /SCANNOW" (i.e. in CAPS).
Thanks again for your help.

Unfortunately the fix was short-lived.
Referring to your previous help, if I follow the instruction to uninstall "Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery" shutdown and reconnect to Power Adaptor, do I need to follow this up with the BIOS update every time?
Appreciate your help.
