Hi @kingpin300800,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand how frustrating it is to find your HP Notebook 15-dy1036nr laptop battery completely drained after it’s been shut down. Let’s walk through the causes and the right steps to fix them.

1. Disable Fast Startup

Fast Startup can prevent a full shutdown, causing a power drain.

  • Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do
  • Click Change settings that are currently unavailable
  • Uncheck Turn on fast startup
  • Click Save changes

2. Perform a Full Shutdown

Try a full shutdown to test if the issue persists:

  • Press Shift while clicking Shut down from the Start menu.

3. Disable USB Charging in BIOS

Some HP laptops allow USB ports to stay powered even when off.

  • Restart your laptop and press Esc, then F10 to enter BIOS.
  • Look for "USB charging in powered-off state" or similar.
  • Disable it and save changes.

4. Update BIOS and Drivers

Outdated firmware can cause power management issues.

5. Check for Modern Standby

Some HP laptops use Modern Standby, which can cause battery drain even when “off.”

  • Open Command Prompt and run: powercfg /a
  • If it says "Standby (S0 Low Power Idle)" is available, your laptop uses Modern Standby.

I hope this helps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
