Hi @kingpin300800,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
I understand how frustrating it is to find your HP Notebook 15-dy1036nr laptop battery completely drained after it’s been shut down. Let’s walk through the causes and the right steps to fix them.
1. Disable Fast Startup
Fast Startup can prevent a full shutdown, causing a power drain.
- Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do
- Click Change settings that are currently unavailable
- Uncheck Turn on fast startup
- Click Save changes
2. Perform a Full Shutdown
Try a full shutdown to test if the issue persists:
- Press Shift while clicking Shut down from the Start menu.
3. Disable USB Charging in BIOS
Some HP laptops allow USB ports to stay powered even when off.
- Restart your laptop and press Esc, then F10 to enter BIOS.
- Look for "USB charging in powered-off state" or similar.
- Disable it and save changes.
4. Update BIOS and Drivers
Outdated firmware can cause power management issues.
- Visit the official HP support page for your model:
👉 HP Notebook 15-dy1036nr Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Support - Download and install the latest:
- BIOS update
- Chipset drivers
- Intel Management Engine Interface (IMEI)
5. Check for Modern Standby
Some HP laptops use Modern Standby, which can cause battery drain even when “off.”
- Open Command Prompt and run: powercfg /a
- If it says "Standby (S0 Low Power Idle)" is available, your laptop uses Modern Standby.
I hope this helps.
Take care, and have an amazing day!
