hello I have a hp dao0326tu laptop with a hto3xl battery, today while using the laptop it suddenly shut down and after connecting the power adaptor the battery was at 0 percent which surprised me s 5 mins before the battery was at 30 percent and after checking in hw monitor it shows my battery has degraded to 48 percent...how can this happen as just yesterday the battery was fine and today it suddenly degraded to 48 percent, I contacted hp support they told me to run some tests in uefi diagnostics and there too it showed my battery had just 52 percent of life left,how did this happen as there it showed that the battery has just completed only 191 cycles, is the information wrong? my laptop is 4 years old being purchased on October of 2019, i always kept my laptop in good conditions always kept everything in check, can someone help me, i have attached the test results IMG-20231127-WA0015.jpeg

2. Update BIOS/UEFI:

  • Ensure that your laptop's BIOS/UEFI firmware is up-to-date. Manufacturers often release updates that include improvements for battery management.

3. Check for Windows Updates:

  • Make sure your operating system is fully updated. Windows updates can include improvements and fixes for battery-related issues.

4. Use HP Support Assistant:

  • HP provides a tool called HP Support Assistant that can help you diagnose and resolve various issues, including battery problems. Run a battery check through this tool.

5. Battery Report:

  • Generate a battery report in Windows to get detailed information about the battery's health. Open a Command Prompt with administrative privileges and run the following command:

  • This will generate a battery report that you can review to see the charge cycles, capacity history, and other relevant details.

6. Temperature Consideration:

  • Excessive heat can contribute to battery degradation. Ensure that your laptop is not exposed to prolonged high temperatures.

7. Contact HP Support Again:

  • If the issue persists, contact HP Support again, provide them with the additional information you gathered (battery report, calibration results), and ask for further assistance. They may be able to provide specific guidance based on your laptop model and the test results.

  • If the battery health continues to degrade, even after trying the above steps, it might be time to consider replacing the battery. Over time, laptop batteries naturally lose capacity, and after four years, it's not uncommon for a battery to show signs of wear.

Important Note:

If the battery health continues to degrade significantly, even after trying the above steps, it might be an indication that the battery is reaching the end of its usable life, and a replacement may be necessary.

Remember to back up important data before attempting any troubleshooting steps or making significant changes to your laptop.

Hey..thanks for replying..i replaced my old battery with a new one i had on hand.. it's working fine but i want to know is it possible to reset windows battery usage history..as now after replacing when i create the battery report again it shows the whole history back from 2021..

The battery report generated using the powercfg /batteryreport command accumulates data over time, and this historical information is stored in the report file. However, you can manually delete the existing battery report file and generate a new one to start fresh. Here's how you can do it:

  1. Delete the Existing Battery Report:

    • Open File Explorer and navigate to the directory where the battery report is saved.
    • By default, the battery report is usually saved in the user directory. The file is named battery-report.html.
    • Delete this file.
  2. Generate a New Battery Report:

    • Open Command Prompt with administrative privileges.
    • Run the command powercfg /batteryreport again.
    • This will create a new battery report file.

By deleting the old report and generating a new one, you essentially start with a clean slate for battery usage history.

Please note that this process won't affect the actual battery health or performance; it only clears the recorded historical data in the report.
