Hi @Simran_123,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

You're describing classic signs of a failing or degraded battery in your HP 15.6" Laptop (model 15-d5000 series, product code 4V9Y1AV). Charging extremely fast and draining just as quickly usually indicates severe wear or a battery health issue—not normal behavior for any modern laptop, especially with Windows 11.

1. Battery Calibration

HP recommends this to resync the battery's actual charge with what Windows reports:

  • Charge the battery fully (leave it plugged in for at least 3 hours).
  • Then let it drain completely until the laptop shuts off.
  • Recharge it again to 100% without interruption.

This helps recalibrate the battery status indicator

 2. Reset Battery Drivers

Sometimes Windows mismanages battery drivers after updates:

  1. Press Windows + X → select Device Manager.
  2. Expand Batteries.
  3. Right-click each item under it (e.g., Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery) → click Uninstall device.
  4. Restart your laptop. Windows will reinstall them automatically.

3. Check for Windows 11 Power Issues

Windows 11 has been known to cause battery drain on some systems. Try:

  • Enable Battery Saver: Settings → System → Power & Battery → Battery Saver.
  • Adjust Power Plan: Use “Balanced” or “Power Saver” mode.
  • Turn off background apps: Settings → Apps → Installed Apps → Disable unnecessary ones from running in the background.

4. Battery Health Check

If the issue persists, the battery might be physically degraded.

  • Run HP Hardware Diagnostics:
    • Turn off the laptop.
    • Press Esc repeatedly while turning it on.
    • Press F2 for diagnostics → Select Battery Test.

If the test shows “Replace Battery,” it’s time for a new one.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
