Hi  @sahisuresh,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I Understand your concern on how it can be when the battery is not charging properly and the laptop becomes slow. don’t worry let me help you with this.

Could you kindly confirm the HP notebook model number ? (Link for steps on how to find the serial number - click here )

Also if you could kindly confirm the below details :

  1. What is the exact battery message displayed on your computer any error codes ?
  2. Is the battery percentage stuck at a certain level, or does it show 0% plugged in, not charging?
  3. Kindly confirm if the unit warranty is active or expired ?
  4. Does the issue occur with the original HP charger?
  5. Is the laptop slow only when running on battery power, or even when connected to the charger?
  6. Could you also share a picture of the battery warning message if possible?

In the meantime, kindly try the below steps and confirm :

1: Perform a Hard Reset - (For your reference link for the steps on how to perform the hard reset - Click here )

  1. Turn off the notebook.
  2. Disconnect the charger.
  3. If the battery is removable, remove it.
  4. Press and hold the Power button for 15-20 seconds.
  5. Reconnect the battery (if removable) and charger.
  6. Turn the notebook back on and check if the charging status changes.

2: Run HP Battery Diagnostics ( For your reference, link for the steps on how to perform the UEFI test - Click here )

  1. Turn off the notebook.
  2. Power it on and repeatedly press Esc.
  3. Select F2 - System Diagnostics.
  4. Go to Component Tests -Power -Battery.
  5. Run the battery test and note the results.
  6. Please share the test result code or any failure ID displayed.

3: Verify BIOS and Windows Updates

  • Ensure Windows is fully updated.
  • Update the BIOS to the latest version available for your notebook model from the HP Support website - https://support.hp.com/
  • If the notebook shuts down or the battery is very low, keep the charger connected during the BIOS update.

If the HP Battery Diagnostic reports "Replace" or "Failure", the battery may need a replacement.

I hope this helps.

I'm an HP Employee.
