Hi @pnkj4

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

A fast-draining battery can be frustrating, especially when you're counting on your HP laptop to last through the day.

Let’s walk through how to extend your battery life effectively—without compromising performance too much.

Essential Fixes to Slow Battery Drain

1. Update BIOS and Drivers

  • Visit your model’s support page on HP’s official site.
  • Install the latest BIOS, chipset, and power management drivers—these directly affect battery behavior.

2. Adjust Power Settings

  • Go to Settings > System > Power & Battery.
  • Set Power Mode to Best Power Efficiency.
  • Under Battery Saver, enable it to turn on automatically at 40–50%.

3. Turn Off Background Apps

  • Open Task Manager > Startup tab.
  • Disable non-essential apps that launch at boot.
  • Also check Settings > Apps > Installed Apps and uninstall anything you don’t use.

4. Dim the Display

  • Lower screen brightness manually or enable adaptive brightness.
  • Use dark mode and reduce screen timeout to 2–5 minutes.

5. Disable Unused Hardware

  • Turn off Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or location services when not needed.
  • Disconnect external devices (USB drives, dongles) that draw power.

6. Use HP Command Center or OMEN Gaming Hub

  • If available, open HP Command Center and switch to Cool or Quiet mode.
  • These modes reduce fan speed and CPU power draw.

Advanced Tips for Power Users

  • Hibernate instead of Sleep: Sleep mode can drain battery slowly over time.
  • Check battery health: Run HP Hardware Diagnostics to assess battery wear.
  • Replace battery if degraded: If health is below 70%, consider a replacement.

Let me know your HP model and usage pattern (gaming, office, travel), and I can tailor the settings even further.
