Elitebook 840 G7

Hi, since a couple months ago, the usb C ports on my Elitebook 840 G7 laptop can't charge the battery anymore.

I used to connect the laptop to the built in dock in my monitor which can provide up to 65w and has always managed to charge it very fast in the last year. i also tried the g5 dock i used before i got the monitor and that didn't work either.

The battery can still be charged with the barrel jack and the HP power supply but as you can imagine it's very incovenient when i could just plug in one cable.
The usb C ports (which are actually thunderbolt 3) still work for video out, ethernet, data transfer and the peripherals connected to the dock; only the charging stopped working.

both the dock and the monitor can still charge other devices and the battery, although quite old, can still last for a few hours.

i have no idea what might be the problem and i can't manage to contact hp support which i doubt exists at this point. any advice is welcome.

Thanks in advance

forgot to mention, i'm runnin Zorin OS which i thought might be the problem at first but considering the ports aren't working for charging even when the laptop is off, i'm pretty sure the problem's hardware related
