I ran a diagnostic test and got the following message however my AC adapter charger is plugged into the port. I confirmed that is charging the solid white light is on, but my battery percentage is 24%. When my laptop is in use my laptop battery drains very quickly and I just replaced the battery itself. Despite changing the battery, I an still having the same issue as I was before. TIA.

The battery is functioning correctly, but the AC adapter is not attached. To completely test your battery, please attach the AC adapter.

Hi @kingsvillesdest

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I understand the concern especially since you’ve already replaced the battery and the system still shows incorrect charging behavior. Even though your AC adapter appears physically connected and the LED indicator is solid white, That’s why the battery test reports: “AC adapter is not attached.” When this happens, the laptop will run on battery power and drain quickly even while plugged in. I would request you to please follow the steps:

Test with an alternative AC adapter if poossible.

Perform a power reset

  • Shut down the laptop
  • Unplug charger
  • Hold power button for 30 seconds
  • Reconnect charger and restart again

Reinstall Battery Drivers:

  • Right-click the Start menu and select Device Manager.
  • Expand the Batteries section.
  • Right-click Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and click Uninstall device.
  • Restart your laptop to let Windows automatically reinstall the fresh driver.

Verify AC adapter recognition in BIOS

  • Restart the laptop and repeatedly press Esc → then F10 (BIOS Setup)
  • Look for AC Adapter Type / Battery Information
  • If it shows “Unknown” or “Not Installed”, the system is not properly detecting the charger

Run HP Hardware Battery Test

  • Shut down laptop
  • Turn it ON and press Esc repeatedly
  • Press F2 → HP PC Hardware Diagnostics
  • Select:
  • Component Tests
  • Power
  • Battery Test

Hope this helps, Please revert if the issue persists with the test results.

Take care and have an amazing day!
