Hi @221902,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Looks like your laptop’s battery is holding onto that 99% like a stubborn guest who won’t leave! 🎭 And that screen going dark when carried? Sounds like it’s playing a game of hide-and-seek. Let’s get to the bottom of this!
Battery Stuck at 99%
This could be due to battery calibration issues. Try these steps:
Run Battery Check in HP Support Assistant
- Open HP Support Assistant (install from HP’s website if not available).
- Go to Battery & Performance > Run Battery Check.
- If any issues are found, follow the suggested fixes.
Battery Calibration
- Charge to 100% and leave it plugged in for about 2 hours after reaching full charge.
- Unplug and use your laptop normally until it shuts down due to low battery.
- Charge back to 100% without interruption.
- Restart and check if the battery percentage updates correctly.
Update Battery Drivers
- Right-click Start > Device Manager.
- Expand Batteries > Right-click Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery.
- Click Uninstall device, then restart your laptop.
- Windows will reinstall the driver automatically.
Screen Turns Off When Carrying the Laptop
This could be caused by the lid sensor or sleep settings.
Check Power & Sleep Settings
- Go to Settings > System > Power & Sleep.
- Under Screen & Sleep, check if settings are too short and adjust them.
Disable Lid Close Action
- Open Control Panel > Power Options.
- Click Choose what closing the lid does (left panel).
- Change When I close the lid to Do nothing (for both battery and plugged-in).
- Click Save Changes.
Run HP Diagnostic for Lid Sensor
- Restart and press F2 repeatedly to enter HP Hardware Diagnostics.
- Run Component Tests > Power > Lid Open/Close Test.
- If errors appear, the lid sensor might need a firmware update or repair.
Final Suggestions
- Check for BIOS updates on HP’s support website.
- Observe if the issue happens only when tilting the laptop—if so, it could be a loose display connection.
- If the issue persists, you may need HP service support for hardware inspection.
With a few tweaks, we’ll have your battery behaving and your screen staying put. 🛠️ If anything else pops up, I’m here to help, no disappearing acts, I promise! 🚀
Hope I was able to make things easier for you! 😊
