power on but battery does not charge

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

 

I understand your laptop's battery is not charging.

 

Please try the below suggestions and let me know if this helps.

 

To start with, lets verify that everything is plugged in securely.

 

Unplug your laptop charger from both the wall outlet and your laptop

Inspect all connection points for damage or debris

Firmly reconnect the charger to both the wall and your laptop

Check that the outlet is working by plugging in another device

 

Update or reinstall the battery driver.

  1. Right-click the Start button and select “Device Manager”
  2. Expand the “Batteries” section
  3. Right-click on “Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery”
  4. Choose “Update driver” and follow the prompts
  5. If updating doesn’t help, try uninstalling the driver instead
  6. Restart your laptop to allow Windows to reinstall the driver

 

Check power management settings.

  1. Open Windows Settings and go to System > Power & sleep
  2. Click “Additional power settings”
  3. Select “Change plan settings” next to your current power plan
  4. Click “Change advanced power settings”
  5. Expand the “Battery” section
  6. Ensure “Critical battery action” and “Low battery action” are not set to shut down or sleep when plugged in

 

Run the power troubleshooter.

 

  1. Open Windows Settings
  2. Go to System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters
  3. Find “Power” in the list and click “Run”
  4. Follow any on-screen instructions to complete the troubleshooting process

 

Check your battery health.

If you’ve tried the above steps and are still having issues, it’s worth checking your battery’s overall health:

  1. Open a Command Prompt as an administrator
  2. Type powercfg /batteryreport and press Enter
  3. Open the generated HTML report (typically saved in your user folder)
  4. Look at the “Design Capacity” vs “Full Charge Capacity”
