one month back I got my dv6 3056tx notebook's battery is not charging. But upto now I keep managing my laptop because I use my laptop very less. Today when I started plugging in my power adapter and started using laptop , a beep sound came from the adapter. When I shut the power switch, after 5 seconds it stopped beeping. What could be the problem.Do I need to replace it immediately or else it is due to the damaged battery? If I nned to replace my adapter how can I find the model number of my adapter? Pls help...

Adapters occasionally buzz and whine before they die. It is the circuitry that changes the very high AC wall power to the DC power to the laptop. There are some gates and switches in there that actually move a bit and they can make noise. The adapter could work like that for months or die tomorrow but you should replace it ASAP and keep an eye on it. Do not leave it plugged in to the laptop overnight, for example. There is a very slightly elevated chance of fire.

If you bought your computer new and one month ago your battery should still be under warranty. You can contact HP for a replacement. Unless I misunderstood you or am not familiar with this model.

I think the problem is the adapter, not the battery but cowboys makes a good point. If your laptop is less than a year old HP should replace the adapter and/or battery if either or both is defective. When you call tell them you are concerned about fire hazard.

No ,actually my notebook is 3 years old and also battery does not consist warranty. My battery stopped charging before one month means I need to replace it now. I was asking so because I dont have any idea whether the beeping sound from the ac adapter might be due the damaged battery. Do I need to replace it immediately or else after purchasing the new battery is there a chance that my adapter will not beep ? According to you is my adapter also damaged?

HP Recommended

Try plugging in the adapter with and without the battery. Trying to charge a bad battery puts all kinds of stress on the adapter but it should never beep or make any other noise. If it does, that means some part inside has gone bad and you should replace the adapter. The electrical parts of the laptop are not something you want to mess with. It is a bit less urgent if the noise is not present when the battery is not also present and odds are you will not get the noise when the battery is replaced. However, as stated above, the AC adapter should not make a noise even under stress.

Purchased a new adapter and it reacts the same, beeps every 3 minutes or so. This is with it connected or disconnected to HP 720 printer. Are there any other suggestions?
