My backup consists of a USB-C external 2.5 inch SSD like this:
Pop in a 1 TB 2.5 inch SATA SSD:
Initialize and format the drive the first time you plug it in the laptop:

Use Windows 7 backup (seen in the Windows 11 Control panel as an option) and create a backup of everything including a system image. The resulting backup can be used to restore an exact copy of your Windows installation in the event your hard drive crashes and is accessible to recover individual files if you accidentally delete something, for example.

I have the backup set to run every Sunday night...this is one of those things that would start a fight in a geek bar (best way to back up?). There are many ways and this is not the only one I use but this is my fail-safe go-to.
