I have a pavilion dv7-4177nr from 2011. I orginally came with windows 7 installed. I have upgraded the os to windows 8.1. I see that there are 2 updates for BIOS for my notebook, but I don't know if it matters that I have an upgraded os on it now. There isnt an option for windows 8.1 for this machine... only windows 7. so my question is do i get the update for the bios for windows 7 since my machine originally came pre installed with that version? or can I just not update the bios now?

The BIOS updates distributed by HP are OS-version specific. So, if they are listed for Windows 7, they will not run under a different OS version.

ok that answered my first question.... So for the next question....If i was to aquire windows 7 and load it onto my laptop and update the BIOS that should work correct?
and also...Is updating the bios on an older machine like mine even worth it? I see that the update fixed memory issues and thats what Im having problems with on my laptop. I'm just trying to get this computer to the best possible working state that can be achieved. I'm not a tech expert by any means. But I do my research before doing anything. I came across the bios update during other research I was doing about my computer.
