I just purchased this brand new laptop from amazon, but from what I can tell, the warranty is expired. This has to be incorrect, right? I cant find a way to talk to HP. How do I find out about this? I shouldnt have to pay more money to talk to customer support when I just bought the laptop.

There is a specific warranty check page on the HP website. As it says, the date given is an estimate. You can contact HP and make your case for a different date based on the actual date of first retail purchase. You may have to provide supporting documentation.
