HP Pavilion g6-2111us
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

My 'c' and 'd' keys aren't working (lowercase nor capital c and d). I tested and all of the other keys work properly except these two (I'm using the on-screen keyboard to type now).

I just came back from a 2 week vacation with the notebook powered off the whole time, everything worked perfectly fine beforehand and I changed absoultely nothing at all, but now these two keys do not work all of the sudden. I rebooted the laptop and uninstalled / re-installed the 'Standard PS/2 Keyboard'. I thought the rebooting process would fix it, but it hasn't yet. I've had this laptop for ~5 years and I don't recall having this problem before (or if I did, it worked simply after rebooting). I haven't seen any error messages or anything, just noticed they don't work. Thanks!

**edit 7/14/2017: I just took out and cleaned the crumbs from the keyoard & its ribbon connecting to the motherboard thinking that was it, still nothing. I have tried everything, so I assume it's the keyboard itself (hardware), so I have bought a new one. Needless to say, hopefully that will fix it!

Hi, the new keyboard fixed the problem so it was indeed a hardware problem.  Note it is a 5 year old laptop. Thanks for your help, kudos!

Hello @chriskoro,

Welcome to HP Forums.
This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips.
Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂

CERTAIN KEYS ARE NOT WORKING:

Did you drop liquid or have any accidents with the keyboard?

When was the last time it worked without this issue?

Did you check with an alternate user account or an external keyboard to check if all the keys on that work?

I recommend the below steps:

  1. Uninstall the keyboard from the device manager.

  2. Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.

  3. Turn on the computer and immediately press the F2 key repeatedly, about once every second.

  4. The HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) main menu is displayed.

  6. Select Component tests from the above figure1.

I have tried to do as you said, but after I press f2, there is no

Component Test

option.  I have HP Advanced System Diagnostics 4.2.1.0

Also note, I took the physical keyboard out and cleaned the ribbon and still nothing. So I have a feeling it's a hardware problem and I've purchased a new keyboard.
