but after all, on other laptops everything worked as it should and the iPhone was recognized and at the same time no settings were changed, how can I find out if my type-c port is working properly and whether it supports it at all except charging

All USB-C ports on HP laptops support data transfer. If the port puts out a charge, very unlikely there is anything defective with the port on the laptop. You can run a diagnostic on the port in UEFI (preboot) diagnostics or make a bootable usb disk to run the full hardware diagnostic routine. You need a usb device to use for testing like maybe a thumb drive connected by a usb-C to USB-A adapter. The diagnostic will test whether data can be transferred through the port.
