can i upgrade my laptop ram from 4gb to 12 or 16 gb ram ( laptop processor is generation 3 core i5)

Hi:

 

You can go up to 2 x 8 GB of memory.

 

Below is the link to the service manual.  The memory upgrade info can be found in chapter 1.

I would either go 2 x 4 GB or 2 x 8 GB so the notebook runs in the better performing dual data rate (DDR) mode.

 

a 4 GB + an 8 GB memory module will keep the notebook running in the lower performing single data rate mode (SDR) mode as it is currently.
