I can't access an SD card on my HP Chromebook x360. My laptop has an SD card slot, but I can't find a way to read the card.
On-line sites state there should be a way to switch on the reader in utilities, memory storage permissions.
There is no such switch/option to do this.

Hi @psychomainer,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP Chromebook x360 isn’t recognizing the SD card, there are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot.
- Check SD Card Slot: Ensure the SD card is properly inserted into the slot. Sometimes the card needs to be pushed in firmly.
- File Explorer Access: Open the Files app on your Chromebook. The SD card should appear in the left sidebar under “External Storage” or similar. If it's not visible, try removing and reinserting the card.
- Restart Chromebook: A simple restart might resolve the issue. Restart your Chromebook and check if the SD card is recognized after rebooting.
- Update Chromebook: Make sure your Chromebook is running the latest version of Chrome OS. Go to Settings > About Chrome OS > Check for updates.
- Check Permissions: You mentioned utilities, but make sure that your Chromebook doesn’t have restrictions on external storage. Go to Settings > Privacy and Security > Site Settings > Additional Permissions and ensure that the device is allowed to access storage.
- Try Another SD Card: If possible, test with a different SD card to rule out the possibility of the card being the issue.
- Format SD Card: If the SD card is new or was used with another device, it might need to be formatted. Note that this will erase all data on the card, so back up any important files if possible.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
