can't change bios hidden settings

Hello,

I upgraded the version of my bios to the f20 version inside.

Since the update, in the bios hidden options (that I have dump with FPTW -> uefiTool ->IRFExtractor) they added  a new setting which is "igfx gsm2" that we can't change (because it's in the hidden boot options that the OEM lock for some reason) and this setting determines how much dedicated ram the integrated graphics can take from the ram.

In my case the setting is set to 2Go so I loose 2Go of my 16Go of ram (14 left) that I need to play triple A games (like rust, the game take 10Go of ram to play) since the update the game can take only 8go ram wich lead to a crash because it can't launch.

So I tried to change this variable to "0xff" (to set to 0Gb of ram) but I am unable to write the data to 0xff at the offset of the "igfx gsm2" variable with ru.efi (put this in a USB stick in /EFI/BOOT/ folder an renamed "ru.efi" to "bootx64.efi") due to FPRR protection.

So my question is : is there an other way to change this variable ? or change the permission to write the variable ? to have my 2Gb of ram back.

I see that you are looking for BIOS advance settings for your Laptop.

Kindly refer to the below steps and let me know if that resolves the issue.

• Boot up your computer and then quickly keep tapping the F10 key to get in to BIOS.
• If you find the Advanced settings tab missing in the BIOS, that is because your manufacturer has locked the settings on your computer as the improper use of the Advanced settings in BIOS could damage your computer, and there is no way to unlock it.

Im not going to mark your post as "accepted solution" because you did nothing.

for the moment I found  a solution Wich is to force windows to not auto update my bios, and to downgrade my bios version from f20 to f14 because the f14 bios version don't take my 2 gigs of ram.

I know this is bad to downgrade the bios but this is the only solution to keep enjoying my laptop.

I am sorry for the inconvenience and the trouble you had to go through with the latest BIOS update.

You can wait for the next BIOS version to be released from HP for your dvice and install it if there was an issue with the one available now.

Just so you know, if you installed BIOS update F.21 Rev.A:

 Due to the security updates installed by this BIOS update, previous BIOS versions cannot be reinstalled after this BIOS update is run.

Thank you for the information, 

I will not upgrade my bios settings for my entire life I think because as you said I could definitely loose my 2gigs of ram if I upgrade to f21.

Rip the security of my PC but at least I have a plenty 15.8 Go of ram available.
