@dev_shukla, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
It sounds like your HP Pavilion x360 14 Convertible laptop is having an intermittent issue where it only charges when it's off, and sometimes the charging status is not displayed. Since the hardware diagnostic test passed (except for the battery status), let's try to troubleshoot systematically.
Check the Power Adapter and Cable
Inspect the power adapter and charging cable for any visible damage or fraying. A damaged cable could cause intermittent charging.
If possible, try using a different charger (make sure it's compatible with your laptop) to rule out charger issues.
Perform a Hard Reset
This can clear any potential minor software issues or glitches.
Power off the laptop.
Unplug the power adapter.
Press and hold the power button for 15-30 seconds to drain any residual power.
Reconnect the power adapter and power on the laptop.
Battery Health Check
Since the hardware diagnostic didn’t flag the battery, but it isn’t showing the charging status, check the battery status via Windows.
Right-click on the Start menu and select Device Manager.
Expand the Batteries section and see if there’s any yellow warning icon next to the Microsoft AC Adapter or Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery.
Right-click and uninstall the drivers for both, then restart your laptop. Windows will automatically reinstall the correct drivers upon restart.
Additionally:
Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and check if there are any background processes or software using excessive resources.
Battery Report: Open Command Prompt as an administrator and type powercfg /batteryreport. This will generate a report that may give you insight into the health and status of the battery.
Update/Reinstall Battery Drivers
Even though you mentioned that updates are done, reinstalling the battery drivers might help resolve the issue.
Open Device Manager again.
Expand Batteries, and right-click on Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery.
Select Uninstall Device, then Restart the laptop. Windows should reinstall the driver after rebooting.
HP Support Assistant Issue
If HP Support Assistant won’t open despite updating:
Try reinstalling HP Support Assistant:
Go to Control Panel > Programs and Features and uninstall HP Support Assistant.
Reinstall it from HP Support Assistant | HP® Support.
Check if Windows Update or any antivirus/firewall is blocking HP Support Assistant from opening.
I hope this helps.
Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.
Take care and have a good day.
