Product: HP Spectre x360 Convertible 13-ae0xx
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have the latest hp spectre x360 convertible 8th Gen Core i7 laptop

 

Issue: whenever I turn on the keyboard backlight I can hear a coil whining sound that is very annoying. I think this started when I did a hp update but I am unsure. 
Is there any solution? Is this a hardware or software problem?

Unfortunately, I did notice this behaviour on my previous Spectre x360s, which were basically identical to yours. 

 

This is hardware related therefore I do want to suggest contacting HP:
