Western Digital WD Blue 500 GB 2.5 inch SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (WDS500G2B0A)

Hi:

You will want to install the 2.5" SSD in place of the existing 2.5" drive.

That is because there is a good possibility that the sata port the DVD drive plugs into is not SATA III.

According to chapter 1 of the service manual, the DVD drive is fixed.

Optical drive 9.0mm tray load - SATA - Fixed (not modular)

HP Pavilion Notebook PC Maintenance and Service Guide

That doesn't seem to me that it will be easy to fit a HDD caddy in place of the DVD.

You picked what I think is the best SATA SSD out there for the price--The WD Blue.

And One more thing can you tell me which ram should I chose as my current RAM is Samsung 8GB DDR4 2133Mhz and if I upgrade 4GB more will it work fine and what is single channel ram. The following is compatible?. Or you can suggest me another compatible RAM. And also what is buffered and unbuffered?.

  • Number of Channels: Single Channel            (Also what is this?)

SAMSUNG SO-DIMM PC4-17000, 1RX8 DDR4 4 GB (Single Channel) Laptop (M471A5143DB0-CPB DDR4 2133 MHz 260-pin LAPTOP RAM)

I recommend you max out the memory by adding a second memory chip in the empty slot, so that you have 16 GB memory running in dual channel mode rather than 12 GB of memory running in single channel mode.

This would be a compatible DDR4 memory chip for your PC:

Although it is DDR4-2666 MHz, it will automatically bridge to 2133 MHz, which is the fastest speed your notebook's processor can run the memory at.

If you want to install a 4 GB chip, this would be the one you would need...

Thank you very much and btw this 2666Mhz ram will cause any problem?

You're very welcome.

The DDR4-2666 MHz memory will work just fine in your notebook.
