Specs say your laptop also has an nVidia GTX 950M 4 gb switchable video system which is important because in your model line, only laptops with l7 processor and 4 gb video have an M.2 slot so your has a slot, but it can only handle SATA-3 type M.2 disks, not the NVME kind such as the Samsung 970.
See p. 2 here:
Even though I know yours is a 6th gen Intel Core CPU, and this Manual only covers up to 5th gen, this is the Manual HP has associated with your model.
The Samsung 850 or 860 line of M.2 disks should work for you.
