If you want to install a new drive, I would replace the 1 TB 2.5" mechanical hard drive with a 2.5" solid state drive (SSD).
Something like this:
Below is the link to the service manual where you can find the hard drive removal and replacement procedure:
While you're in there, you may as well max out the memory.
Remove the 4 GB memory chip and replace it with an 8 GB memory chip so the memory runs in the better performing dual channel mode.

Yeah, I replaced the memory a while ago, and the battery. however I have only 12gb ram... That should be enough, but it acutally sucks right now. I think 8 was the max it would take, but I wish I could put in more. Not even sure where to look.

So what I did was get this: Crucial P3 Plus 1TB 3D NAND Flash PCIe Gen 4 x4 NVMe M.2 Internal SSD - Micro Center
It is about 1000 times faster. Boots up in 5 seconds and when you go to Edge it comes right up!!!... WOW.... There is a port for it... however the bios does not seem to see it. I used a windows creation media USB card and it found the m2 card. Bypassed TPM and security check and now running windows 11 wicked fast so far.
