Common problems for Battery
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about: Battery Reports, Hold a charge, Test and Calibrating Battery . Check out this link: Is your notebook plugged in and not charging?

HP ENVY 15 won't stay on even when plugged in.  School tech support says it's the battery but even if plugged to direct power still turns off.  It randomly turned itself off.  When it tries to turn on it tries to run a repair function and then shuts down.  Can't seem to find replacement batteries.  Battery says it is 100% charged  and it won't power on.

Hi @majorfrustratn,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I can imagine how stressful this must feel. Your HP ENVY 15 tries to power on, the screen flickers toward life, you hear that faint hum of the system preparing to boot… and then everything suddenly goes quiet again. Let’s walk through this the HP way, calmly and step by step.

STEP 1: Try a Hard Reset (Removes Residual Charge)

This step helps when the laptop is stuck in a power loop or keeps shutting off.

  1. Disconnect the AC adapter
  2. Hold the power button for 15 seconds
  3. Reconnect the AC adapter
  4. Attempt to turn it on

👉 If the laptop still shuts off, move to Step 2.

STEP 2: Check the Charger Light and Adapter Behavior

Look at the charging port area:

  • White/Amber light ON: charger is detected
  • No light: either the charger, port, or motherboard isn’t delivering power

Even if the battery shows 100%, a failing battery or board can lie about the charge level.

If the charger light flickers or goes dark when the laptop tries to start → the internal power circuitry is stressed.

STEP 3: BIOS Restore:

  • Shut down the computer, keep the charger plugged in
  • Hold down the Windows and B buttons together while the computer is still turned off.
  • Turn on the computer and continue to hold the Windows and B buttons until a BIOS Recovery screen appears.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions and click on OK.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
